Peru’s cement market expanded by 5.7 per cent YoY to 0.865Mt in June 2018 and when compared with the previous month, largely stable, according to the latest data from Asocem, the country’s cement association. Of this total, national deliveries fell by 2.1 per cent YoY to 0.76Mt while imports advanced 147.5 per cent YoY to 0.106Mt.
Cement production slipped by 2.5 per cent YoY to 0.79Mt in June 2018 from 0.807Mt in June 2017 while clinker output rose 45.7 per cent from 0.726Mt in June 2017 to 0.849Mt one year later.
Cement exports remained stable at 21,800t in June while clinker exports surged from 22,700t in June 2017 to 130,700t in June 2018.
January-June 2018
Apparent consumption (domestic sales + imports) reached 5.053Mt in the first six months of 2018. This represents a four per cent rise when compared with the 4.859Mt reported in January-June 2017.
Between January-June 2018 Peru’s cement plants produced 4.746Mt of cement and 4.164Mt of clinker, representing YoY increases of 1.3 and 15.6 per cent, respectively.
Imports of cement advanced by 36.5 per cent from 0.331Mt in 1H17 to 0.452Mt one year later. Clinker imports saw a more modest but still significant rise of 12.1 per cent from 0.224Mt to 0.475Mt over the same period.
Exports of cement decreased 7.6 per cent from 0.157Mt in 1H17 to 0.145Mt in 1H18, but clinker exports nearly quadrupled from 0.141Mt in the first six months of 2017 to 0.55Mt in this year’s equivalent period.
