Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 6.5 per cent to 9.4Mt in May 2018, according to the US Geological Survey.
Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio were the leading states in terms of cement demand, receiving some 38 per cent of domestic USGS Cement stats 2017-10 shipments.
The leading cement-producing states were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan, which combined accounted for around 42 per cent of the domestic total.
In addition to domestic Portland and blended cement output, the US imported 1.137Mt of such cement from outside its borders.
Masonry cement deliveries increased to 2.5 per cent YoY to 0.222Mt in May 2018.
Leading cement-consuming states were Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Tennessee, accounting for some 55 per cent of total May shipments.
Clinker production totalled 7.1Mt in may 2018, a nudge up when compared with output in May 2017 (excluding Puerto Rico).

Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the first five months of 2018 reached 36.6Mt, representing a 3.6 per cent increase YoY. Total imports during this five-month period reached 4.278Mt.
Masonry cement deliveries in the first five months of 2018 totalled 0.975t, slipping by 2.2 per cent YoY.
Clinker production remains stable at 28.9Mt in 5M18 when compared with the same period in 2017.
