Cement capacity is set to increase to 9.4Mta in Côte d’Ivoire by 2019 following significant investment by the industry, according to the country’s Secretary of State for the Promotion of SMES, Anoblé Félix.

The new capacity is driven by an accelerated demand in major public infrastructure projects, the social housing programme and many private projects. Consumption is expected to rise by 11 per cent YoY.

"To cope, the national cement production has increased from 2.52Mt in 2015 to 3Mt in 2016. In 2017, production is in the order of 3.Mt. I am pleased to see that the development prospects of the cement industry are reassuring in our country. Indeed, more than XOF73bn have been invested by cement producers over the period 2015-2017 to increase their production capacity, which allowed Côte d'Ivoire to have an installed capacity 7.2Mta in 2015. This capacity should even reach 9.4Mta by the beginning of 2019", Mr Félix said.
