Vietnamese cement demand rose 14 per cent YoY to 5.44Mt in August 2018, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, northern provinces accounted for 39.2 per cent or 2.13Mt of total domestic consumption while off-take in central Vietnam reached 1.42Mt or 26.2 per cent. In the south deliveries reached 1.88Mt or 34.6 per cent of the country’s demand.
Total production reached 8.43Mt, representing an increase of 37 per cent when compared with August 2017.
In addition, the country’s cement producers exported 976,444t of cement, up 80 per cent YoY, and 2,017,205t of clinker, an increase of 137 per cent when compared with August 2017.
Going forward, VNCA expects cement production to rise to 63.3Mt by the end of 2018. Of this total, the domestic market is forecast to absorb 42.22Mt while around 21.08Mt is predicted to be exported.
