Hamburg-based Baltrader Capital has ordered the construction of two cement carriers from Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China. These vessels will be delivered  from the end of 2020.

The sister vessels, CemCoaster and CemClipper will measures 98m in length, 15.6m in width and will be able to carry 4650t at 6m draft. The new generation of cement carriers will be optimised for the European shortsea trade and will be propelled by MaK main engines, allowing a future conversion into dual fuel operation such as LNG, liquid natural gas, or on marine gasoil.

The ships have been planned and designed in Germany by SDC Ship Design & Consult in cooperation with the project engineering department of the BRISE-Group.

Van Aalst has designed the automatic 250tph self-discharging system and 500tph ship loader. The closed system offers decisive benefits for the transportation of loose cement, ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash – such as emission free and weatherproof loading and unloading.

With the arrival of the two new vessels from China, the Baltrader fleet will soon count 12 cement carriers with pneumatic self-discharging systems.
