Sonmez Cimento orders new WHR unit from CTP Team

Turkey’s Sonmez Cimento Yapi ve Madencilik has signed a turnkey EPC contract with CTP Team (Italy) for a WHR unit at its Sonmez Cement plant. The system will have a duel-loop configuration and recover heat from the preheater and clinker cooler, according to a press release.  

Including a 7.8MW turbine operating at 3000rpm alongside a turbo generator, the new ORC system is expected to provide a net power generation of 51mkWh per year. Therefore, covering approximately 30 per cent of the plant’s electricity needs.

The unit will reduce CO₂ emissions by 23,500tpa, as well as eradicate the need for a water supply. The company will also design a fully automatic system for operation, with the entire project scheduled to begin operations with the 1H20.
