Cement demand in Puerto Rico decreased 11.4 per cent in August, continuing a seven-month period of decline. In August 1.12m bags of 94lb (42.5kg), or 47,600t were sold.
Cement output slipped 2.4 per cent YoY to 1.06m bags – the sixth fall in seven months, according to Sin Comillas.
In 2018 domestic cement sales were up 38.9 per cent YoY to reach 14.3m bags (607,750t) – the first rise since 2012. In the previous year sales had dropped 11.2 per cent to 10.3m bags (437,750t), impacted by the lack of activity in the months following Hurricane Maria.
