Peru’s cement consumption increased 6.5 per cent to 1.035Mt in September 2019 when compared with September 2018, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. This included 1.02Mt supplied by domestic producers.

Cement production increased 7.4 per cent to 943,000t when compared with September 2018 and 0.8 per cent MoM. Clinker output rose 18.4 per cent YoY and 0.2 per cent MoM to 820,000t.

In terms of external trade, cement exports declined 29.1 per cent YoY to 14,700t in September 2019 but improved 9.4 per cent when compared with August 2019. Clinker exports dropped to 33,000t, representing a decrease of 68.6 and 9.1 per cent when compared with September 2018 and August 2019, respectively.

Imports of cement saw a fall of around 62 per cent MoM and YoY to 19,000t while clinker imports remained stable YoY but more than doubled MoM to 88,000t.
