Following the import ban on grey cement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), importers have taken more creative ways to import cement into the central African country. According to reports by Agence d’Information d’Afrique Centrale, grey cement is now imported via canoe on the Congo River to the main consumption centres in the country.
Local producers have protested, citing unfair competition, import fraud and a low product quality as the main reasons for their grievances.
