Total shipments of cement and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico were up slightly to 10.3Mt in August 2019 when compared with August 2018. The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois accounted for 38 per cent of August shipments while in terms of supply, the leading producing states (Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan) shipped 41 per cent of US output.

Masonry cement deliveries dropped 7.7 per cent YoY in August 2019 to 217,000t. Around 55 per cent of shipments were supplied to the top masonry cement-consuming states – Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia.

Clinker output, excluding Puerto Rico, increased 3.6 per cent YoY to 7.3Mt, with Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Pennsylvania accounting for 48 per cent of clinker produced.

Domestic dispatches were supplemented with 1.6Mt of imports, representing a YoY increase of 7.4 per cent.

January-August 2019
Portland and blended cement shipments for the January-August 2019 period advanced 2.4 per cent to 66.9Mt when compared with the 8M19. In the eight-month period to August 2019, masonry cement deliveries slipped to 1.6Mt. Clinker output, excluding Puerto Rico, edged up to 50.8Mt.

Imports for the year to August 2019 reached 11Mt, up 8.9 per cent YoY.
