Peru's cement consumption up 8% in April

Cement dispatches in Peru increased eight per cent YoY to 0.97Mt in April 2024, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Of this total, 0.886Mt were delivered by the association’s members.

However, domestic cement producers reduced their cement output by five per cent YoY to 0.869Mt while clinker output advanced by 27 per cent YoY to 0.801Mt in April 2024.

External trade
Cement exports fell by 33 per cent YoY to 9000t in April 2024, but clinker exports edged up by one per cent to 36,000t when compared with April 2023.

Despite the increase in domestic demand, cement imports dropped by 47 per cent YoY to 3000t and clinker imports by 40 per cent to 89,000t in April 2024 when compared with April 2023. Imports represented 0.3 per cent of national cement production. Cement was imported from neighbouring Chile, entering the country via the Tacna terminal, while clinker imports arrived from South Korea via Callao port.

In the Tacna terminal the average CIF import price reached US$126/t, up 16 per cent YoY when compared with April 2023. In Callao port clinker was imported at an average CIF price of US$55/t, down eight per cent YoY.
