Hoffman Green Cement Technologies, a global cement company committed to the decarbonisation of the construction sector, has announced the construction of its first unit in Saudi Arabia.
Ground was broken on the new ‘H-KSA 1’ unit in Rabigh, following the company’s signing of a licensing agreement with Saudi conglomerate the Shurfah Group. The 22-year agreement allows for the construction of four Hoffman Green facilities in Saudi Arabia to support the use of low-carbon and clinker-free cement in the country.
As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan, the Shurfah Group aims to finance, build and operate multiple Hoffman Green production facilities and sell their decarbonised cements (on an exclusive basis) throughout the country. This unit, and all subsequent units, will be built solely with Hoffman Green cement.
Construction of the facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Co-founders of Hoffman Green, Julien Blanchard and David Hoffman, said about the project, “The laying of the foundation stone is a symbolic moment in any construction project. We are very proud to have reached this first milestone with our partner Shurfah, on schedule. Less than a year after signing the licensing agreement, the start of construction of H-KSA 1 marks our international deployment in support of the kingdom's ambitious “Vision 2030” project. We are delighted to participate in the decarbonisation of the Saudi construction sector by building several of our units on their territory and marketing our zero per cent cement clinker”.
Abdullah Al Majed, founder and chairman of Shurfah Holding Co, adds, “Decarbonising our 'smart cities' is a major challenge for Shurfah Holding and, more broadly, for Saudi Arabia. This partnership with Hoffmann Green is a natural fit with the Vision 2030 Plan, which strives to contribute to the sustainable development of the Saudi economy.”
