Argentina's cement market contracted by 27.2 per cent YoY to 780,541t in May 2024 from 1,071,951t, but compared with April 2024, dispatches were up 19 per cent, reports the country's cement association, AFCP.

Domestic production was down 27.1 per cent YoY to 785,211t in May 2024 from 1,077,128t, but up 18.7 per cent MoM. Of this total, cement producers exported 4930t, representing a drop of 4.8 per cent YoY and 16.6 per cent MoM.

To supplement domestic output, 260t of cement were imported, up 7.9 per cent MoM. There were no imports in May 2023.

January-May 2024
In the first five months of 2024, Argentine cement consumption declined by 30.5 per cent YoY to 3,521,695t from 5,068,625t in the 5M23. This includes 2151t of imports for the five-month period. There were no imports in the 5M23.

Argentina's cement producers supplied 3,546,558t of cement in the 5M24, down 30.4 per cent YoY from 5,096,866t in the 5M23. This includes 27,014t of exports, down 4.3 per cent YoY from 28,241t.
