Cementos Progreso has launched operations at its West Plant in El Coyol de Alajuela, Costa Rica, following a US$1m investment. The facility, which created 12 new jobs, will produce concrete for various construction projects nationwide.

"This plant allows us to control quality more rigorously and optimize operations to meet the specific needs of free zone developments and specialised applications," said Andrés Bolaños, director of solutions for builders at Cementos Progreso.

The company entered the Costa Rican market in 2022 with a US$300m investment, establishing a major production plant in Colorado de Abangares and generating 500 jobs. Cementos Progreso now operates seven concrete production plants across the country and expanded its regional footprint with the acquisition of Cemex's operations in Costa Rica and El Salvador in 2021.
