Domestic dispatches in Peru edged up by 0.1 per cent YoY to 0.967Mt in December 2024, according to the country's cement association, ASOCEM. Of this total, 0.897Mt were supplied by the association's members.
Cement production in Peru slipped by one per cent to 0.916Mt in December 2024 when compared with December 2023 while clinker production was down 30 per cent YoY to 0.657Mt.
Cement exports increased by 70 per cent YoY to 12,900t, but the association reported that there were no clinker exports.
Cement imports advanced by 22 per cent YoY to 3000t with all shipments entering Peru from Chile via the Tacna terminal. The average CIF import price was reported as US$127/t, up 19 per cent YoY.
Meanwhile, clinker imports surged 376 per cent to 209,000t. Of this total, 44 per cent was attributed to cement producers from South Korea, 24 per cent from Japan, 19 per cent from Ecuador and 13 per cent from Türkiye. The average CIF import price fell by 19 per cent YoY to US$54/t, imported via the port of Callao, while at the ports of Matarani and Pisco, average CIF import prices were US$111/t (up 87 per cent YoY) and US$48/t (down 19 per cent YoY), respectively.

For the full-year 2024 cement dispatches in Peru remained stable at 11.993Mt. Of this total, ASOCEM members saw a three per cent decline in domestic sales to 10.917Mt from 11.2Mt in 2023.
Cement production in 2024 saw a similar contraction, by three per cent, to 11.066Mt from 11.404Mt in 2023.
In terms of external trade, domestic cement producers exported 131,000t of cement, down eight per cent YoY from 143,000t in 2023, while clinker exports fell by a quarter to 503,000t from 669,000t in 2023.
Cement imports increased by 29 per cent YoY to 272,000t when compared with 2023, when 211,000t of cement were imported. Clinker imports saw a 42 per cent surge to 957,000t in 2024 from 673,000t in the previous year.
