Pakistan's cement sector has shown impressive export performance in the first seven of FY24-25 (July 2024-January 2025). According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), exports of cement and clinker increased by 24.9 per cent, reaching a total value of US$188m (5.237Mt), up from US$150.65m (3.89Mt) during the same period last year. This reflects a significant YoY increase of 35.3 per cent in volume. When converted to Pakistani rupees, export revenue rose by 21.1 per cent, totalling PKR52.31bn.
The growth trend was reversed in January 2025, with the PBS reporting a MoM decrease in cement sector exports of 35.4 per cent, falling to US$20.61m from US$31.89m in December 2024. This represents a volume fall of 38.9 per cent, reducing from 952.067t to 581,574t since the previous month. On a positive note, YoY comparisons for January indicate a significant increase, with cement exports climbing by 40 per cent in value and 48.9 per cent in quantity compared to January 2024, amounting to 390,572t valued at US$14.72m.
