The 0.83Mta Mataporquera plant of Cementos Alfa SA, part of the Cementos Portland Valderrivas group, exported 82 per cent of its production, reported local press. The main destination for these exports was the UK.

The group has three silos with a total capacity of 23,000t at the port of Raos. Closed-circuit loading processes and the use of rail transport reduce the company's carbon footprint. In 2025 the plant will bring a new control system online to manage its kiln, improving kiln efficiency and reducing costs.

In addition, the company is also looking at advanced techniques in carbon capture and utilisation processes. With University of Cantabria and other European partners, it is currently developing the production of formic acid from captured CO2 in its Captus project, which is EU funded.
