GICA to commission new Sigus plant in March 2019

Construction of the new Sigus integrated cement plant in Oum El Bouaghi province, Algeria, is 87 per cent complete, according to Sofiane Bensaci, Finance Director of the company. With a production capacity of 2.2Mta, the Sigus plant will employ 150 direct jobs and 2000 indirect jobs, and commence production in March 2019. Total investment in the plant, which is part of the state-owned Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algerie (GICA), is DZD51bn (USD429m).

CILAS ships first clinker exports to west Africa

Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) carried out it first export operation of 35,000t of clinker from Algeria’s Annaba port to west Africa. The shipment is part of LafargeHolcim Algeria’s drive to export more than 2Mt of product in 2020. Algeria steps up exports

GICA, LafargeHolcim and Biskria are expected to export 0.5Mta of cement and clinker from Algeria by the end of 2018 – mainly via the port of Djendjen, according to Abdesselem Bouab, general manager of the port. Since May, GICA has completed three export deliveries for a total of 110,000t of cement. The company’s total contract totals 200,000t and represents a value of over US$4m. ASEC Cement starts Zahana exit negotiations

Qalaa Holdings announced that its subsidiary ASEC Cement has commenced negotations to exit Zahana Cement, in which it owns 35 per cent of shares. ASEC Cement has invested US$62m in Zahana Cement, which has a plant located some 40km from Oran, western Algeria. The cement producer upgraded the works to produce 0.75Mta and has been building a new 1.6Mta line, scheduled to come online at the start of 2020.

CTIEC to start Adrar Line 2 procurement

China Triumph International Engineering Co Ltd (CTIEC) will start equipment procurement for the US$211m second production line of the Adrar plant in Algeria, which is under development by STG Engineering and Real Estate Development Co. Meftah holds co-processing trials

GICA subsidiary SCMI-Meftah has been carrying out co-processing trials using sludge, waste oils and sorted household waste in its Meftah works in Algeria. GICA plans its first export shipment to west Africa

Algeria’s GICA has signed a maritime contract of carriage with CNAN Nord, a subsidiary of state-run shipping group GATMA, for the company’s first shipment of 10,000t of cement to west Africa. GICA plans to export between 1-1.5Mt of its production in 2018, according to the Ministry of Industry and Mining.

LafargeHolcim Msila ships 17,000t for export to west Africa

LafargeHolcim’s plant in Msila, Algeria, has recently carried out a 17,000t shipment for west Africa. The consignment of bulk cement was delivered to the port of Djendjen. It is the seventh such delivery since December 2017 and its part of the group’s plans to export 2Mt of cement in 2020. LafargeHolcim owns two plans in Algeria – one at M’Sila and one at Oggaz (Mascara). In addition, it is part of a joint venture with the Souakri Cilas group and runs the plans at Biskra.

GICA exports first clinker to Europe

The Algerian Industry Ministry said GICA exported its first shipment of clinker to Europe in April. A subsidiary of state-run GICA Group delivered 45,000t. The shipment is part of a contract to export 200,000t to Europe. GICA is expected to export more cement to African and European countries in the near future, the statement noted.

LafargeHolcim Algeria completes third Gambia consigment

LafargeHolcim Algeria carried out its third export shipment of grey cement to Gambia from the port of Arzew on 28 March, the company said. Following two earlier shipments in December 2017 and March 2018, some 30,000t of bulk grey cement was delivered from its Oggaz cement plant in Mascara to Gambia.
