NuCycle ramps up AF production for Cemex

US-based NuCycle Energy has launched a facility in Plant City, Florida, to make alternative fuels, primarily as a coal substitute, exclusively for Cemex. The plant, which came online in April, is now fully operational and ramping up to process 150,000tpa of post-industrial materials, primarily process and packaging residuals. LafargeHolcim plans EUR10m investment in Kujawy

LafargeHolcim will be investing EUR10m in its Kujawy cement plant in Poland. The company will be launched a new product on the market as well as increase the use of alternative fuels (AFs) at the works. At present Cementownia Kujawy’s AF rate is between 80-85 per cent, or around 190,000t, but Lafarge plans to increase this to 90 per cent by 2021. To date Lafarge has invested around EUR100m in the Kujawy cement works, which produces approximately 2Mta of cement.

Ohorongo Cement in Namibia has partnered with Carbo Namibia, a Namibian manufacturer and exporter of charcoal products, in an attempt to increase its energy saving initiatives and lower its carbon footprint. Adelaide Brighton has now used 1Mt of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) at its Birkenhead facility, South Australia, diverting 2Mt of waste from landfill sites.
