Puerto Rican cement sales down 7% in March

In March 2022 cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 6.5 per cent YoY to 1.47m bags of 94lb, or 62,677t, according to the country’s Institute of Statistics. Despite the fourth-consecutive monthly fall, sales are 24.5 per cent above the pre-pandemic level. Cement production in March 2022 slipped 0.7 per cent YoY to 32, 618t (765,000 bags). Output from the country’s cement factories has fallen for nine of the last 11 months.

Cemex signs alternative fuel agreement with 3M

Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico, including imports, edged up to 6.6Mt in January 2022, according to the US Geological Survey USGS). The largest consuming states were Texas, Florida, California, Georgia and Arizona, who accounted for a total share of 51 per cent of these shipments. Plycem  ( Elementia Group ) has announced the investment of US$3m in its manufacturing plant located in Cartago. With this, it seeks the automation of a new production line for ‘microconcrete’ sheets in Costa Rica. In February 2022 cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 13.3 per cent YoY to 1.18m bags of 94lb, or 50,312t, according to Puerto Rico’s Institute of Statistics. However, cement output increased 4.1 per cent YoY to 26,478t. Production had been falling for eight of the last 10 months, reports Sin Comillas.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 5.4 per cent uplift in December 2021 when compared with December 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Honduras sees cement price increase

The price of bag of cement in Honduras has edged up HNL10 in the last few days, making civil works and access to housing for the local population more expensive, according to La Tribuna. A 46kg bag of cement now costs HNL210, up from HNL200 last month, in the capital Tegucigalpa’s shops, said Silvio Larios, executive director of the Honduran construction chamber, CHICO.
