Cement demand in El Salvador sees 33% hike in 10M21

Apparent cement consumption in El Salvador increased 33 per cent YoY to 1.437Mt in the 10M21 from 1.086Mt in the 10M20, according to the country’s construction chamber, CASALCO. Cement prices have increased with cement delivered ex-works (including VAT) up 6.9 per cent YoY to US$8.09/bag of 42.5kg in January 2022 from US$7.57/bag in January 2021. At the retail level, prices increased by 5.6 per cent YoY to US$8.83/bag in January 2022 from US$8.36/bag.

Cementos Argos erects industrialised plant for concrete modular solutions

With the installation of the first industrialised plant for concrete modular solutions in Colombia, Argos will begin to produce and market modular solutions in concrete for building houses and infrastructures in series.   The plant will begin operations at the end of the 1H22, allowing the construction of an estimated 500 homes by the end of this year. Puerto Rican cement sales dip 12% in January

Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 11.5 per cent to 45,622t in January 2022 when compared to January 2021, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. It is the second consecutive drop and the lowest level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cement sales saw a rise from May 2020 until the lockdown ended at the start of the pandemic. Cemex announced strong results for the FY21 with double-digit EBITDA growth, the highest in more than a decade, coupled with a similar increase in sales, driven by higher volumes and robust pricing in all core products in all regions. In 2021 cement producers in the Dominican Republic manufactured 6.5Mt of cement, supplying a construction industry that saw 23.4 per cent growth as the country started its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 9.2 per cent YoY hike to 9.4Mt in November 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
