Cemex Latam Holdings records net sales decline of 8% in 3Q20

Cemex Latam Holdings announced that its consolidated net sales declined by eight per cent in 3Q20 and EBITDA improved by 19 per cent compared to 3Q19. A controlling interest net loss of US$109m was recorded during the 3Q20. Operating EBITDA in Colombia reached US$28m, 59 per cent higher on a like-to-like basis compared to 3Q19. Cemex exported 9% of Mexican output in 2019

Cemex exported nine per cent of its Mexican cement sales in 2019. according to CE NAFTA 2.0. The company’s data show that 67 per cent of exports were delivered to US customers while the remaining 33 per cent were shipped to other Latin American countries. Exports were mainly in the form of cement although the company also shipped some clinker.

New Cuban facility begins production of green cement

After several months of tests, a new plant installed at the Marta Abreu University in Las Villas, Cuba, has begun the production of low-carbon cement (LC3). The main components of the cement are clinker, calcined clay, limestone and gypsum. At present, the plant produces around 4tpd of LC3, but production is expected to double once the new facility is fully operational.

Cemex SA de CV has closed the amendment process under its facilities agreement, dated 19 July 2017. Cemex is extending US$1.1bn of term loan maturities by three years from 2022-25 and approximately US$1.1bn of commitments under the revolving credit agreement by one year from 2022 to 2023. Cement sales in Puerto Rico increased 38.4 per cent YoY in September, according to the country’s statistics institute. A total of 1.41m bags of 94 pounds, or 60,119t, was sold, representing the fifth consecutive rise and the highest September sales in the last eight years. Suppliers report cement shortage in Jamaica

Cement retailers in Manchester and St Elizabeth, Jamaica, are reportedly struggling to meet demand after a sharp dip in supply, according to the Jamaica Observer. As a result, some hardware stores have no cement in stock and others are limiting each customer to 10 bags. The shortage allegedly began last month but has gotten worse recently. However, Norman Horne, executive chairman of cement distributor ARC manufacturing, has stated that he was not aware of a shortage.

Elementia commissions Yucatan plant

Mexico's Cementos Fortaleza ( Elementia) inaugurated its new grinding plant in Yucatan last Friday, together with the governor of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila  Dosal , the mayor of Progreso, Julián  Zacarías   Curi , and the Secretariat of Economic Development and Work, Ernesto Herrera Novel. The grinding station will have a cement production capacity of 250,000tpa and during the first stage of construction generated about 300 direct and 450 indirect jobs.
