Argos receives US$272m sustainability-linked loan

Colombia’s Banco de Bogotá has disbursed a US$272m sustainability-linked loan to Cementos Argos . The agreement allows a gradual reduction in interest rate subject to the cement producer’s compliance with two environmental indicators: net specific CO 2 emissions and a supplier sustainability assessment. Colombia’s cement market expanded by 2.1 per cent YoY to 1.126Mt in May 2023 from 1.104Mt in May 2022, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Grey cement dispatches in Colombia declined 9.3 per cent YoY to 0.987Mt in April 2023 from 1.089Mt in April 2022, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE.   Empresa Colombiana de Cementos and its Alión brand have named Martha Patricia Quintero Valderrama as the company’s new managing director. She succeeds Juan Martínez Gilsanz, who will be leading the global business of aluminate cement for the Spanish cement producer. Ms Quintero Valderrama has more than 25 years of experience in the building materials industry and has been Alión’s commercial director for the last five years. Cement consumption in Colombia fell by 4.4 per cent YoY to 1.058Mt in February 2023 from 1.107Mt, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Grey cement dispatches in Colombia slipped 1.1 per cent YoY to 1.122Mt in December 2022 from 1.135Mt in December 2021, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE.
