Bolivian market sees 7% MoM decline in April

Cement consumption in Bolivia surged to 286,667t in April 2021 from a very low base of 39,222t in April 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to INE, the country’s statistics agency. Indonesian cement demand decreased by 1Mt to 3.68Mt in May 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). Colombian cement sales increased 15.5 per cent YoY to 815,400t in May 2021 from 705,900t in May 2020, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. When compared with May 2019 there was a 22.7 per cent drop from 1.055Mt.   The offtake by ready-mix concrete companies surged 45.6 per cent, while construction companies and contractors increased their purchases by 15.7 per cent. Cement sales in Dominican Republic decline 5% in 2020

Cement sales in the Dominican Republic fell by five per cent to 4,446,706t in 2020 from 4,703,347t in 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem, in its newly-published 2020 annual report. Cement production declined 8.4 per cent to 5,168,969t in 2020 from 5,644,176t in the previous year. This represents a capacity utilisation rate of 74.6 per cent, down from 81.5 per cent in 2019. Cement sales in Puerto Rico up 12% in May

In May 2021 cement sales in Puerto Rico increased 12 per cent YoY to 59,266t, according to the country’s Economic Development Bank. In the first 11 months of the FY21 639,566t of cement were sold. This represents an advance of 39.2 per cent when compared to 460,487t sold in the 11MFY20, as well as the highest volume since 2014.  In 2020 sales in the Puerto Rican market rose 2.8 per cent YoY to 588,400t.

Peruvian cement producers dispatched 1.062Mt of cement in May 2021, representing a 228 per cent increase YoY from a low base due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Spanish cement consumption increased 16.9 per cent to 1,333,508t in May 2021, according to Oficemen. However, the cement association points out that the rise is from a low base when compared with May 2020, due to the country’s lockdown due to COVID-19. Iranian cement consumption in May 2021 reached 5.78Mt. This represents a 28.4 per cent MoM increase from 4.5Mt in April 2021. In addition to domestic deliveries, producers exported 0.34Mt of cement, down 26.1 per cent MoM, and 0.79Mt of clinker, up 3.9 per cent MoM. Cement dispatches in Vietnam reached 6.551Mt in April 2021, up 16 per cent YoY, according to the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA). VICEM reported a 17 per cent YoY rise in sales to 2.26Mt while its affiliated companies saw a six per cent YoY uptick to 1.661Mt.
