Heidelberg Materials has completed the divestment of its joint venture in Georgia. IKN is installing a new clinker cooler at Holcim 's Małogoszcz cement plant, Poland. The new modern production line with a capacity of 3700tpd of clinker is being built next to three old lines, which are planned to be taken out of operation later. Steppe Cement sees volumes fall 24% in 1Q23

Kazakhstan-based Steppe Cement has reported sales of KZT4.94bn (US$10.96m) in the opening quarter of 2023, compared to KZT6.3bn in the same period a year earlier, representing a 21 per cent YoY decline. According to the Morning Star, in terms of cement volumes, over the same period sales fell from 281,968t to 214,832t, down 24 per cent YoY. Akmenes Cementas to import SRF to replace coal

Lithuania-based Akmenes Cementas plans to import up to 200,000t of solid recovered fuel (SRF) each year, replacing its use of coal. According to the Baltic Business Daily, the company currently uses around 130,000t of coal each year. By 2024 SRF will replace 75 per cent of the coal, rising to 90 per cent by the end of 2027. Nexe plans EUR400m decarbonisation investment

Croatia-based Nexe announced a EUR400m project to construct a new carbon-neutral clinker production line at its Našice cement plant. Uzbekistan produced 14.6Mt of cement in 2022, reports UzDaily, giving a per capita production figure for the year of 415kg. This compares to 1770kg in Turkey, 519kg in China and 280kg in the USA. Kyrgyzstan production up 7% in 2022

The Kyrgyz cement industry produced 2.666Mt of cement in 2022, according to the Eurasian Economic Commission. This represents a YoY increase of 7.1 per cent. Kazakhstan’s cement output reached 12.088Mt while in Russia cement plants produced 60.667Mt. Armenia’s cement output was over 1Mt, up by 17.7 per cent YoY.

Eurocement becomes Cemros

Eurocement has changed its name to Cemros. The rebranding is aimed at renewing the company on a new stage of development since its acquisition by Smikom in 2021 for around US$2.2bn, following an auction held by Sberbank. An internal staff competition was held to find a new company name before a vote from a shortlist. Cemros invokes the words ‘cement’ and ‘Russia’ and was suggested by Eurocement employees, Evgeny Lukanovsky, Alexey Lotarev and Igor Efimov.  

Akçansa Çimento reports increase in revenue and profit

Turkey’s Akçansa Çimento has announced revenue of TRY8.9bn (US$471.7m) in 2022, compared to TRY2.87bn in the previous year. Net profit over the same timeframe has risen from TRY303.6m to TRY1.52bn, according to Reuters.
