A new solid recovery fuel (SRF) plant is, under discussion in Volos, Greece. The new facility would supply RDF to the cement industry, but the plans face local opposition over pollution concerns. New waste treatment plant to supply RDF in UAE

The construction of a solid waste treatment plant in Umm Al Qaiwain, UAE, is nearing completion. One operational, the facility will process waste from the nearby region and supply RDF to cement plants. The AED132m (US$36m) unit is expected to process 1500t of waste every day to produce 300,000tpa of alternative fuel, according to Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. Henan to hike water and electricity fees

The Chinese province of Henan will increase water and electricity tariffs for cement and steel producers that have failed to meet ultra-low emissions standards, said the provincial environmental regulator. Israel’s Environmental Protection Ministry has approved Nesher Cement’s revised emissions permit, which will see the company replace some of its raw materials with waste. PPC Zimbabwe has found an investor for its project to establish a 32MW solar plant at its Colleen Bawn plant in Matabeleland South province. Half of the plant’s output will be used for the company’s cement manufacturing operations, while the other half will be supplied to the national power grid.
