Cemex Ventures to recycle plastic to produce concrete and aggregates via Arqlite

01 July 2020, Published under Cement News

Cemex Ventures is investing in US-based Arqlite SPC, a start-up that produces light recycled aggregates from plastic waste. The product benefits from a low CO 2 footprint and a greater durability for drainage, precast and lightweight concrete systems for non-structural use. Arqlite SPC began its research and development process in Argentina in 2016. It has developed an innovative technology that allows most of the plastic waste to be recycled instead of disposal at a landfill or polluting...

LafargeHolcim's Mannersdorf plant set for carbon capture project

29 June 2020, Published under Cement News

Austria’s energy and petrochemicals company OMV and polymers firm Borealis have signed a memorandum of understanding with Verbund and LafargeHolcim to jointly develop the “Carbon2ProductAustria” (C2PAT) project, which aims to capture almost 100 per cent of the 700,000tpa of CO 2 emitted from LafargeHolcim’s cement plant in Mannersdorf. The CO 2 is expected to be transformed to renewable-based hydrocarbons, which in turn can be used to produce fuel or a feedstock to manufacture value-add...
