EPA fines Martinsburg cement plant US$1.5m

Martinsburg cement plant, located in West Virginia, United States, has agreed to pay a US$1.5m fine for violations of the Federal Clean Air Act from 2013 through 2016, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Kattameya plant burns biomass for the first time

The Suez Cement Kattameya plant (HeidelbergCement Group) has used waste as alternative fuel (AF) in its main burner for the first time this week. Hima Cement Ltd has agreed to surrender back over 30 acres of land it illegally acquired in Mwello, Tororo, Uganda, according to The Observer. Cartes EIS draws calls for cave protection

Paraguay’s cave research association, Fepae, has called on the country’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development to protect the Risso cave in San Lazaro, Conception, in response to proposals from Grupo Cartes to invest US$180m in a cement plant nearby. The request comes following the publication of an environmental impact study (EIS) by Sociedad Calera Risso that includes the construction of an electrical substation and 66kV transmission line relating to the plant.
