IDNR, Buzzi cement Vermilion River agreement

An agreement between the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Lone Star Industries (Buzzi Unicem USA), announced Monday the Buzzi Unicem-owned section of the Vermilion River outside Oglesby will reopen for public recreation in 2011.

Holcim Indonesia gets top marks for environmental excellence

Holcim Indonesia’s plant in Cilacap, Central Java, has been awarded the top rating for environmental excellence by the Environment Ministry. The company has made it onto the list of “gold” companies, the highest rating for companies judged by the ministry. Known as the Corporate Environmental Performance Ratings, or Proper, the list is the result of an assessment conducted annually since 2002 by the Environment Ministry to encourage regulatory compliance and punish the worst offenders.

Lafarge Canada Inc. has been fined $125,000 by the B.C. A cement powder spill three years ago in Richmond has wound up costing Lafarge Canada Inc. a fine of US$125,000. The fine was imposed Friday in B.C. Provincial Court as a result of a Feb. 17, 2007 incident at Lafarge’s plant on No. 9 Road in Richmond. Cement powder was being blown into a silo that overflowed and allowed the powder to escape.
