Nigerian House of Representatives threatens to issue arrest warrants for Dangote

A committee from Nigeria’s House of Representatives, investigating the hike in cement prices, has warned it will issue arrest warrants for Dangote Cement’s management after executives failed to honour an invitation. Chaired by Jonathan Gaza, the House Committee on Solid Minerals issued the threat on 9 July during a National Assembly hearing after the company failed to show up. Gaza stated that the committee would give Dangote Cement another opportunity to comply before taking further action....

Dangote ramps up investment in Zambia with second plant

Dangote Cement has announced plans to double its investment in Zambia by building a second cement plant. The company has already constructed one plant in Masaita at a cost of US$450m but this investment will now be boosted to US$900m with plans for a second facility, reports The Guardian. The Masaita works is designed to have a cement production capacity of 1.5Mta and is scheduled to reach full capacity by the end of 2024. The new plant is expected to be commissioned soon.

Dangote Cement commits to CNG trucks by 2025

Dangote Cement has pledged that all of its trucks will be operating on compressed natural gas (CNG) by the end of 2025, reports Vanguard. Gunmen abduct Dangote workers at Okpella

Gunmen stormed Dangote Cement ’s Okpella plant in Edo State, Nigeria, on 14 May, abducting dozens of plant workers, according to Business Day. Eye witnesses say the gunmen opened fire on a convoy of plant workers. The number of workers injured is currently unknown.  The attack has been confirmed by Michael Odofin, a spokesperson for Okpella Cement Plc. “I cannot give any details right now but our workers were attacked. The attack is still fresh. We have no one killed,” said Mr Odofin.

Dangote Cement has announced the retirement of its Deputy Group Managing Director, Mathew Philip. Mr Philip retired from the cement producer on 30 April 2024, reports Business Day. “The company extends its appreciation to Mathew for his significant contributions and improvement to the operations of the business and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” said the company in a statement.  

BUA Cement CFO Jacques Piekarski resigns
