Pakistan: export price for Afghanistan ‘unrealistic’

Cement exports to Afghanistan are grossly under-valued due to intense competition, according to Pakistan industry sources. They told Business Recorder  on Saturday that US$42/t price quoted for export to Afghanistan is not realistic. 

Since no country in the world could supply cement to Afghanistan at less than US$60/t, they demanded that the government should fix minimum export price of cement to Afghanistan at US$55/t.

On November 18, Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property Protection (INDECOPI) issued an order revoking the request to apply anti-dumping duties on imports of white cement by Cemex of Mexico, requested by Compañía Minera de Agregados Calcáreos S.A. Industry: Vietnam clinker imports forecast at 2Mt in 2010

The Ministry of Construction predicted Vietnam will import between 1.9-2Mt of clinker this year, up about 40 per cent from a year earlier. The nation bought 1.8Mt of clinker in the first ten months, including 50,000t in October, the ministry was cited by the state-run Vietnam News Agency as saying Tuesday. Cement sector profits are expected to continue in coming quarters on the back of a 16 per cent increase in cement prices, according to IGI Securities. Senegalese exports fell 10.2 per cent to CFA83bn (US$175.7m) in August on declining petroleum and cement shipments, the state statistical agency said.
