Pakistan: local cement sale, export decline

The sale of Pakistani cement in national and international markets fell to 31.38Mt in the recently-ended fiscal year 2010/11, down by 8% from 34.2Mt in the previous fiscal year, said All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) on Monday. Vietnam’s Vicem exports 640,000t of cement and clinker year-to-date

The state-run Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) has reaped US$20m from exporting 640,000t of cement and clinker so far this year, up 13.6% YoY in volume. Of the total, 610,000t  were shipped to Bangladesh, Myanmar, Hong Kong and Singapore, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said. Another 30,000t of cement were exported to Laos and Cambodia, it added. Indian prices steadily fall

Indian cement prices are on a downward spiral with the onset of monsoon. Prices in the southern states have started to decline, with Chennai witnessing a drop of INR10/50kg bag from June 1 for at trade level and a drop of INR15/bag for the non-trade. As President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive to cement manufacturers and other stakeholders to bring down the price of the product in 30 days ended on Tuesday, price of the product dropped from an average of NGN2500/50kg bag (US$16)  to between NGN1600 and NGN1900/bag (US$10 and US$12) nationwide. Cartel investigation into leading Indian firms

The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), is investigating allegations of cartelisation against cement majors UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cements and ACC, the Economic Times reports.

Mexico sees slight increases in cement prices

The monthly price survey conducted by Cemex for June shows an increase of 
0.4 per cent per month (+3.3 per cent YoY) in the average regional retail price of in Mexico, approximately MXP114/ 50kg of cement (US$9.6). 
The variation in price across regions was mixed, with a monthly increase of two
percent in Mexico City and one percent in Monterrey, Tijuana and Guadalajara.

UNICEM cuts prices, Nigeria

United Cement Company of Nigeria (UNICEM), has slashed the price of a bag of cement from over NGN2000 (US$12.8) in the region to NGN1600 (US$10.30). Sales Director, William Anam, who made this disclosure in a statement issued in Calabar, said the decision to slash the price is in line with the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan. The company  also plans to increase its current production capacity from 1.3Mt to 1.8Mt this year and a further projection of 2.5Mt by 2012.

Bahrain halts Saudi imports over price increases

Bahrain’s ministry of industry and commerce has halted imports of Saudi Arabian cement into the country after it was asked to accept price increases of 11%, reports Construction Week.
