China exported US$940m worth of 22.64Mt cement in the first ten months of 2008, dropping 5.5% and 22.1% YoY, respectively, according to the General Administration of Customs of China. The new tariffs of the Russian South-Caucasian Railways have made the export of Armenian cement to Russia unprofitable, President of Mika Cement company Mikhail Bagdasarov said during a press-conference today. Egypt cement exports to USA fall by 28 per cent

According to Al-Ahram newspaper, Mr. Ashraf Ezzdein, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Office in New York, said that the volume of Egypt’s cement exports to the USA fell by 28% in 2007 compared with 2006. Holcim says it will order a $50 million replacement ship for the 32-year-old coastal cement carrier MV Westport, probably late next year. It expects to commission the ship into service in 2012.
