Carthage Cement reported a turnover of TND41.95m (US$26.45m) in the three months to March 31, 2014, up 337 per cent compared to the same period in 2013. Carthage sees strong rise in 1Q turnover

Tunisia’s Carthage Cement saw its turnover increase 337 per cent YoY to TND41.945m (US$26.53m) in 1Q14. However, its aggregates business saw sales fall 34 per cent following a three-week stoppage. The production level was affected by 22 days of social unrest in the Mornag region that prevented Carthage Cement workers to go to work, according to the management. Carthage Cement appoints new Board member, Tunisia

During Carthage Cement’s Annual General Meeting of Thursday, 13 March, Kais Jamaia was appointed as a new Board member, representing the Tunisian government. Mr Jamaia was previously a member of the General Audit Office. Since entering production last November, Carthage Cement has produced 66,599t of cement. Geometrica supplied three bulk storage structures for Carthage Cement’s Djebel Ressas cement works, Tunisia’s largest and newest cement facility. Tunisia: Bizerte to raise output 50% in early 2014

Bizerte Cement management expects to increase its production in early 2014 by 50 per cent to reach 1.5Mta. It attributes the rise to its new production unit, which will enter service.  The TUD141m new line, of which construction started in September 2011, will extend the life of the company by 35 years, according to Bizerte’s technical management.

Carthage Cement officially inaugurated its new cement plant in Tunisia on 5 October. Tunisia’s Carthage Cement lit up its precalciner for the first time on 4 September 2013, in the presence of international experts. The new line is expected to produce 2.2Mta of cement to meet the demand of the local construction sector as well as neighbouring countries.  The first bag of cement is expected to be available at the factory gate in October.

Carthage Cement to start production September 2013

Tunisia's Carthage Cement is expected to produce its first bag of cement on 2 September, according to Riadh Ben Khelifa, managing director of Carthage Cement. The cement plant represents an investment of TND836m (US$510m), of which TND500 as loans by 14 banks. Carthage’s MD added that the company is currently awaiting permission to establish a bag manufacturing plant as well permits to use alternative fuels (RDF) and derive part of its electricity from wind sources.  

Tunisia records 3% YoY rise in April cement sales

Tunisia’s April cement sales are up 3.35 per cent YoY, although the sales of Ciments de Bizerte and Oum Kelil fell during march due to technical and social issues, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry. New cement unit for Tunisia operational by 2014

Tunisia will expand its cement production facilities in the region of Bizerte by 2014, according to Mehdi Jomaa, the country’s minister of industry. State-owned Ciments de Bizerte operates at around 1Mta. The extension to the Bizerte plant represents an investment of TND250m (US$150.5m). Equipment has been delivered to site and the assembly process reportedly has started.
