Hanson secures road project for Hinkley Point C

Hanson UK (HeidelbergCement group) has extended its involvement with EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C project in the UK, securing a roads construction contract for the Kier Bam joint venture (JV) through its contracting division. The contract includes supplying 40,000t of cement-bound granular material (CBGM) and 100,000t of asphalt over the next two years. The materials will be used to build access roads on site. Growth prospects for the UK's construction industry in 2018 have been downgraded as the country prepares to leave the EU, according to the latest forecasts by the Construction Products Association (CPA). The UK’s Construction Products Association's State of Trade Survey for 2Q17 reveals that UK construction product manufacturers experienced growth in sales and activity for the 17th consecutive quarter, but higher input costs and rising uncertainty has dampened manufacturers’ views for the near-term future.
