UK: Westbury cement works chimney demolished

The Westbury cement works, owned by Tarmac, constructed its site in the early 1960s. This weekend a 122m-high chimney at the site was demolished, after being taken out of action in 2009. The demolition marks the end of over 40 years of cement production at the site. Ecocem invests EUR30m in new JV plant

Ireland’s Ecocem has invested EUR30m into a new production plant in the north of France as part of a joint venture with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel company. The joint venture, in which Ecocem holds a 70 per cent stake, will increase the company’s capacity from 1.4Mta to 2Mta. Plans to construct four cement and concrete plants near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London have caused outrage among local residents. UK CMA gives final clearance in Breedon’s Hope acquisition

UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has cleared Breedon to acquire Hope Construction Materials following its acceptance of Breedon’s undertakings in lieu of a reference to a Phase 2 investigation in respect of its proposed acquisition of Hope.
