GCC signs agreement for clean energy supply

Mexico’s Grupo Cementos Chihuahua (GCC) has signed an agreement with a US-based clean energy provider for the supply of solar and wind energy to its cement plant in Odessa, Texas, to fulfil 100 per cent of the facility’s electricity requirement. PCA Summer forecasts suggests 2.3% growth in US cement consumption

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) has released its summer forecast for the US cement sector with its near-term projections largely unchanged since PCA's Spring outlook.  Cement consumption is expected to grow 2.3 per cent in 2019 and 1.7 per cent in 2020. Overall, slightly softer economic growth, suggests a gentler interest rate pattern as well as slightly less robust conditions in the labour market.  For construction, these factors largely offset each other.

Argos sees net income grow to US$22m in 1H19

Argos has announced that the company's net income grew by 33.5 per cent to US$22m in 1H19. Argos revenues also expanded by 10.6 per cent to US$1.419m, while EBITDA registered an increase of four per cent to total US$262.4m. Titan Group recorded a turnover of EUR785.4m in 1H19, up 10.2 per cent on 1H18. This was attributed to a strong performance in the US market and growth in cement demand in southern Europe, along with a return to modest sales in Greece. Alaskan cement terminal approved

The Anchorage Assembly has approved funding to rebuild the city of Anchorage's docks at a cost of US$42.1m for the first phase of a US$200m programme that will see a petroleum and cement terminal at the city-owned port in Alaska, USA. The first phase of development is being implemented by Seattle-based Pacific Pile and Marine. The port's cement business is mainly carried out by Alaska Basic Industries, which is a primary cement distributor in Alaska, USA.

Cement shipments in USA slip to 9.3Mt

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico fell to 9.3Mt in May 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading consuming states were  Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia , which combined account for 39 per cent of shipments in May.
