Cemex announced that its cement plants in Miami and Brooksville South have been awarded the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star Certification for 2019, recognising Cemex's efforts to reduce energy efficiency and sustainability. Lehigh Hanson to break ground on US$600m Mitchell project

US-based Lehigh Hanson Inc is set to break ground this week on its US$600m expansion and modernisation project at its plant in Mitchell, Indiana. The plans were first announced in July last year and are expected to take four years, according to Inside Indiana Business. It will be the company’s largest expansion and modernisation project in north America and is expected to create 50 jobs.

HeidelbergCement has announced that its north American subsidiary, Lehigh Hanson Inc, has entered into an agreement to acquire Giant Cement’s (Elementia SAB de CV) Keystone facility in Bath, Pennsylvania. Total Portland and blended cement shipments (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico in June 2019 fell by 2.4 per cent to 9.1Mt when compared with June 2018, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
