Carthage Cement sees reduced COVID-19 impact on 3Q results

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement reported a less severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its turnover in the third quarter of 2020. The company’s turnover fell by six per cent to TND172m (US$63m) from TND183m in the 3Q19. In the 2Q20 turnover had fallen by 16 per cent due to the pandemic. Vietnam's Ocean Minerals Investment JSC is expected to commence the construction of Dai Duong cement plant on 22 October, with the project representing a total investment of VND9trn (US$388m) in the central province of Thanh Hoa. PPC sees group revenue decline 2% YoY

South Africa-based PPC has seen its group revenue decline two per cent YoY to ZAR10.241bn (US$618.23m) in the year ending 31 March 2020, compared with ZAR10.494bn in the previous year. Excluding Zimbabwe, revenue fell seven per cent from ZAR9.047bn to ZAR8.380bn, mainly due to a decline in revenues from South Africa cement. Peru's cement producers see 10% rise in local dispatches in September

Cement consumption in Peru remained largely stable at 1.018Mt in September 2020 when compared with August 2020 and increased 10 per cent YoY. Of this total, local dispatches accounted for 1.001Mt, representing a 7.3 per cent rise MoM and a 10.4 per cent increase YoY, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Kenya cement consumption sees 8M20 record high

Kenya's cement consumption for the 8M20 has hit a decade-high of 4.37Mt, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. Consumption rose by 11 per cent form the 3.95Mt recorded in the same period a year earlier. Secil Group has awarded thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions SAS (France) a contract for the modernisation of its 2Mta Outão cement plant in Setúbal, south of Lisbon, Portugal. Brazil sees robust cement consumption growth in September

Cement sales in Brazil saw a 21.4 per cent hike to 5.8Mt in September 2020  when compared with September 2019, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. Sales per working day were 250,500t, up 18.5 per cent YoY and 2.5 per cent MoM. JK Cement commissions 0.7Mta Gujarat unit

India’s JK Cement has commissioned and begun commercial dispatches from its new Gujarat unit. "The company has successfully commissioned 0.7Mta of grey cement grinding capacity at JK Cement works, Balasinor, Gujrat, unit of JK Cement and also commenced commercial dispatches today, ie 8 October 2020," said the company. The company has now completed its planned 4.2Mta grey cement capacity expansion from its units in Rajasthan (2Mta), Uttar Pradesh (1.5Mta) and Gujarat (0.7Mta).
