CIMAF sees 42% rise in cement sales in 1H18

CIMAF reported a 42 per cent rise in cement sales to 184,723t in Gabon during the first half of 2018, according to the Economic and Fiscal Policy unit of Gabon’s Economics Ministry. In January-June 2017, sales reached 130,077t. The company’s production volumes increased 37.7 per cent in the six-month period to 178,518t, up from 129,596t in 6M17. Cim Metal-owned Cim Ivoire has started production at its Abidjan grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire. The 8650tpd grinding unit, which features a vertical roller mill, is the largest plant in the country and is expected to provide the cement producer with long-term logistical benefits. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has sold its 10 per cent stake in Holcim Azerbaijan to LafargeHolcim. Therefore, the company’s share in Holcim Azerbaijan has now risen from 66 to 76 per cent. Loesche has received an order from Sinoma (Suzhou) Construction Co Ltd to supply three VRMs for China’s Lubao Cement Co. The mills will form part of the company’s 4500tpd plant currently under construction in Bei Liu, Guang Xi. Cement dispatches by Asocem members remained largely stable in August 2018 at 865,000t when compared with the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. A new clinker grinding and cement facility is to be built at Geelong following an agreement between Boral Cement and Geelong Port, Australia. Vietnamese cement demand rose 14 per cent YoY to 5.44Mt in August 2018, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA).
