Cemex successfully converts kiln flue gases into nanomaterials

Cemex has announced that it has successfully tested a process that converts flue gases emitted by the cement kiln into carbon nanomaterials, thereby transforming ‘bad’ carbon into ‘good’ carbon. Holcim records 1Q22 net sales growth of 20%

Holcim announced net sales amounted to CHF6440m (US$6.72bn) in the 1Q22, up 20.1 per cent from CHF5362m recorded in the 1Q21. The company achieved double-digit net sales growth in Solutions  & Products, driven by its roofing business sales, to achieve net sales of CHF5bn. Cement dispatches in Peru increased eight per cent YoY to 1.173Mt in March 2022, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In March 2021 dispatches were at a level of 1.089Mt. Cuban cement plants intend to take output over 1Mta in 2022

While cement plants in Cuba will produce more cement in 2022, this would remain insufficient to meet national cement demand, according to the Cuban Ministry of Construction. It is expected that the country will output more than 1Mt in 2022, up from 0.8Mt in the previous year. The country has currently five cent plants with a further two under construction in Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba. Kanodia Cement has set up a new cement grinding unit at its Amethi plant, India. The grinding expansion is already completed and production began in April 2022. Bloomberg has reported on Holcim proposing to dispose of Ambuja Cements Ltd. Holcim owns ACC Ltd and Ambuja Cements in India. With approximately 64Mta of cement capacity it is second-largest producer behind UltraTech Cement in the country. UltraTech acquires 29% stake in RAK White Cement

UltraTech Cement Middle East Investments , part of UltraTech Cement in UAE, has invested US$101m to acquire a 29.39 per cent stake in RAK Cement Co for White Cement and Construction Materials PSC . RAK White Cement reported a turnover of INR4.825bn (US$63.2m) last year, up from INR4.46bn in 2020. The company is registered on the Abu Dhabi and Kuwait stock exchanges.

Vicat Cement Egypt's acquisition of Sinai Cement approved

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has approved the publication of a disclosure of an acquisition offer by Vicat Cement Egypt for a 42.12 per cent stake in Sinai Cement Co at EGP6.74 (US$0.36) per share, according to a filing to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX). Vicat will buy 56.064m shares in Sinai Cement, increasing its stake in the company to 100 per cent.
