Elhadj Bineye Emma has been appointed the new managing director of Société Nationale de Ciment (SONACIM) in Chad by Decree 1319 of 23 May 2022. He will succeed Ahmat Issakha Diar. The decree also sees the appointment of Koye Ndaye Benoit as deputy MD, replacing Kone Allah-Ridy.

IFC to fund Diamond Cement Guinea with US$30m loan

BUA sees jump in profit following new plant

BUA Cement increased sales in the 1Q22 by 58.5 per cent to NGN97bn (US$233.4m) following the commissioning of its new 3Mta Kalambaina Line 4 . Other income surged seven times to NGN186m on the back of insurance claims, which represented 88.7 per cent of the income class. Nigeria’s third-largest cement producer, Lafarge (Wapco) Cement Plc , has released its 1Q22 unaudited results reporting a profit of NGN17.55bn (US$42.2m) during the period, representing 92.2 per cent YoY increase. Revenue growth for the period reached 26.8 per cent YoY. In January 2022 Senegal’s cement market expanded 8.9 per cent when compared with December 2021 and 6.2 per cent when compared with January 2021, says the country’s National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD). Export sales declined 31.7 per cent MoM and 18.1 per cent YoY in January 2022.

To avoid significant market speculation around the price of cement, the Benin government set the retail price of cement by department on 23 March 2022. The price of cement is capped at XOF74,000/t (US$123.94/t) in Porto-Novo and Ouémé- Plateau, XOF75,000/t in Cotonou and Atlantique-Littoral and XOF77,000/t in Comè and Mono-Couffo.
