Dangote Cement appoints new deputy group MD

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has appointed Philip Mathew as its new deputy group managing director and CEO, with effect from 15 September 2021. Mr Mathew has 34 years of working experience in global and regional cement industries, and has been involved in project management from feasibility to commissioning and stabilisation, according to the group.

BUA Cement signs 70MW Wärtsilä power plant agreement

BUA has signed an agreement with Wärtsilä OY of Finland for the construction of a 70MW dual-fuel power plant for the BUA Cement Sokoto Line 4 in Sokoto state, northwest Nigeria. Nouvelle Cimenterie du Bénin (NOCIBE) will increase the price of cement from its plants from 1 September 2021. CEM II 32.5 R cement will cost XOF64,617/t (US$115.96/t), including tax while CEM II 42.5 R cement will be sold at XOF66,997/t, including tax. NOCIBE runs a 1.5Mta integrated cement works at Massé, Benin, and is the country’s largest cement producer.

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has announced a new NGN150bn (US$364.84m) Commercial Paper Programme. The programme is expected to allow the company to broaden its funding sources and, combined with its NGN300bn multi-instrument issuance Bond programme, increase its access to capital market funding. Lafarge Africa Plc announces 1H21 group revenues of NGN145m

Lafarge Africa PLC (Holcim group) announced 1H21 group revenue of NGN145m (US$351.9m) with gross profits of NGN48m. In the 2Q21, group revenue reached NGN73.5m and gross profits amounted to NGN28.9m. Group cement sales totalled NGN71.5m in the 2Q21 and NGN141.4m in the 1H21. Meanwhile, Aggregates and concrete sales amounted to NGN2m in the 2Q21 and NGN145m in the 1H21. Lafarge Africa Plc has a cement production capacity of 10.5Mta in Nigeria.

Ghacem plans construction of new 1.5Mta plant

Ghacem is preparing to begin construction for a new 1.5Mta plant in Kumasi, Ashanti region, which will serve the region and its surrounding areas. Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has posted a 44.8 per cent YoY rise in group revenue to NGN690.55bn (US$1.676bn) in the first half of 2021, compared to NGN476.85bn in the year-ago period. Group EBITDA also climbed 61 per cent to NGN351.06bn from NGN218.07bn in the 1H20, while the EBITDA margin increased to 50.8 per cent from 45.7 per cent.
