Lafarge02 July 2014, Published under Cement NewsLafarge has agreed the sale of Lafarge Cementos in Ecuador to Union Andina de Cemento of Peru for US$553m. The completion date for the sale of this 1.4Mta works has yet to be agreed. This deal follows the sale of the Honduran cement operations to Cementos Argos at around the turn of the year. Lafarge Zimbabwe is looking for a suitable site on which to build a cement works costing US$250m-300m. Feasibility reports will be carried out in areas with large limestone deposits. PPC to construct Harare mill, Zimbabwe23 May 2014, Published under Cement NewsPPC said it would spend US$80m on a cement mill in Harare, Zimbabwe, to be commissioned in 2016. The new mill, to be funded by a corporate loan, is expected to boost operating efficiencies. The company is planning to close less efficient mills at its Bulawayo factory. Last year, PPC announced it would also construct a clinker plant in Mt Darwin in northern Zimbabwe and a cement mill in Tete province, Mozambique. Sino-Zimbabwe boosts clinker capacity05 December 2013, Published under Cement NewsSino-Zimbabwe has completed phase one of its plant modernisation programme by increasing clinker production capacity by 40 per cent. Capacity of the plant has now been increased to 700tpd. Phase two of the project, due for completion this year, involves upgrades to warehouses and storage facilities. PPC02 December 2013, Published under Cement NewsDespite rising electricity prices and depreciation pushing up input costs, South Africa’s PPC has posted an eight per cent rise in EBITDA to ZAR2500m (US$244m) for the year ending September 2013. Revenue growth increased by 13 per cent rise to ZAR8320m (US$811) for the period, while gross profit was up nine per cent at ZAR2700m (US$263m). Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe 1H profit slips03 September 2013, Published under Cement NewsLafarge Cement Zimbabwe’s profit for the first half of 2013 fell 3.8 per cent, but the company expects a better performance in the remainder of the year due to cost reduction measures and an improved operating environment.
