Asia Cement to buy 70% in cement unit

Asia said it proposed to acquire 70% equity interest in Wuhan Xinlingyun Cement at a possible consideration of CNY236.6m. The consideration is payable by installments, subject to further negotiation between the parties.

Tororo Cement denies overloading trucks, Uganda

Tororo Cement has denied allegations that it overloads its trucks , which damage roads. “We comply with the traffic regulations and we don’t see why we are witch hunted,” B.M Gagrani, the Tororo Cement chief, said. 

“We don’t allow overloading at our site and insist that all private transporters don’t overload and comply with road safety and traffic regulations.”

Dalmia Cement appoints new executive director

Dalmia Cement (Bharat), on Wednesday said it has appointed MC Gautam as executive director. Mr Gautam will be looking after the operations at the company’s Kadapa cement plant in Andhra Pradesh in the capacity of unit head. Prior to joining Dalmia Cement, Gautam worked as Chief Operating Officer of Orient Cement.

EPA to regulate coal ash, USA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing national rules to safely dispose and manage coal ash from coal-fired power plants. The proposed rules would also support beneficial reuse or recycling of coal ash in the manufacture of materials such as cement, concrete and asphalt. China Resources to supply China Resources Power

China Resources said it agreed to supply China Resources Power on a continuing basis with a total quantity of 140,000t of cement, during 5 May 2010 to 31 December 2011.   Cement to be supplied will be charged in accordance with the prevailing market prices, to be settled on a monthly basis.   The company said, the sales will be HK$29.4m and HK$30m for the years ending 31 December 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Vicat’s first quarter cement shipments marginally ahead

Vicat’s first quarter turnover declined by 6.2% in absolute terms and by 5.6% on a comparative basis to €398m.  In cement, the turnover was off by 3.4% to €214m, while cement volumes edged ahead by 0.5% to 3.21Mt.    Turnover in concrete and aggregates was down by 10.5% to €136m, with aggregates shipments being down by 1.8% to 3.7Mt but ready-mixed concrete deliveries improved by 3.9% to 1.45Mm³, largely thanks to the sharp recovery in Turkey. Saudi Hail Cement to invest in plant

Recently established Saudi cement producer Hail Cement Co is to sign a SAR750m (US$200m) contract with an unnamed Chinese company for the construction of a cement plant, Al Riyadh daily reports.   The cement plant is expected to be completed by mid-2012 and will have capacity of 5000tpd, translating into 1.5Mta.   Hail Cement will float shares worth SAR 600 million in an IPO scheduled for the third quarter of 2010. ACC April cement production declines, India

ACC announced that the cement production for the month of April declined to 1.79Mt from 1.84Mt in April 2009. The cement despatches for the month edged down to 1.79Mt from 1.8Mt in the year ago month.   The cumulative cement production for the period from January to April 2010 fell to 7.33Mt from 7.44Mt in the year ago period. The cumulative cement despatches for the period dropped to 7.34Mt from 7.44Mt in January-April 2009.

PCA: sustained period of growth expected

Expected increases in public construction activities will pave the way for improved cement consumption in 2010 and beyond, according the most recent economic forecast from the Portland Cement Association (PCA).   In 2010, PCA anticipates a modest five per cent increase in consumption over severely depressed 2009 levels.
