MoEF gives clearance to Lafarge mining, Bangladesh

The ministry of forest and environment (MoEF) on Friday gave the greenlight to Lafarge for limestone mining in Meghalaya for its cement plant in Bangladesh. However, the company must meet a series of conditions which would see them paying some Rs100 crore. Holcim India firms: contrasting results

India-based producers ACC Ltd and Ambuja Cements Ltd, both controlled by Holcim Ltd, released contrasting results on Thursday for the quarter ended 31 March. Profits at India’s largest cement maker ACC fell 1.6% from the same period in the previous fiscal to Rs392.87 crore as sales fell due to a shortage of railway wagons to transport the product. PPC expects half-year earnings to rise, South Africa

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) on Friday said it expected its earnings a share (EPS) and its headline earnings a share for the first-half of the 2010 financial year to be between 450% and 470% higher than that of the first-half of the previous financial year.

Oman Cement Company’s net income rose OMR 7.1m (US $18.4m) for the first three months of 2010 against the end of 2009, although this resulted in a 2.8% reduction in net profits. The Jaypee group plans to ramp up its cement capacity up to 55Mt by 2015, with an investment of around INR8,000 crore-INR10,000 crore.
