Jaypee commissions new grinding and blending plant, India

Jaypee Himachal Cement Grinding and Blending Plant, a unit of Jaiprakash Associates Limited, was commissioned on 14 January 2010. Construction of the plant began in 2005, and during the construction process more than 1200 people deployed on the project. Cemex to lay off 124 workers in Pennsylvania

Cemex told the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry it will temporarily lay off about 124 employees at its Wampum cement plant in Beaver on or about March 19. The plant will build inventories until then and continue shipping once the temporary layoffs occur, Cemex spokeswoman Jennifer Borgan said.

Qassim Cement appoints board chairman, Saudi Arabia

The management board of Saudi cement producer Qassim Cement Co (QCC) appointed at a meeting last Monday Abdullah al-Seif as board chairman. Abdul Aziz al-Zabad was elected deputy board chairman. The current board of directors has a three-year term, ending December 31, 2012.

Holcim plans to raise Indian capacity

Holcim plans to raise capacity in India 20% by 2015 to cater for increasing demand. Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) on Monday justified its actions to enforce a court order to evict illegal occupants from company-owned land, near the its Mooiplaats dolomite mine, close to Pretoria. The Khuzestan Cement Company in southwestern Iran is set to inaugurate its new project on Wednesday.
