Lafarge Jordan rises cement prices

Jordan Lafarge Cement Factories Company (JCFC) raised cement prices by JOD1,25/t, effective Saturday, January16th, 2010, which brings the pre-ax price per tonne to JOD78, 09, said a statement issued by the company on Friday. The company, the sole manufacturer of cement in Jordan, attributed this new rise to higher prices of industrial fuel as authourised by the government on Thursday.

Camargo reiterates Cimpor interest after regulator rebuff

Brazil’s Camargo Correa Group must present a counterbid to take over  Cimpor or withdraw its merger proposal, Portugal’s stock market regulator (CMVM) told the company on Saturday. On Wednesday Camargo Correa offered to merge its cement business with Cimpor and buy a stake of between 15 and 25 per cent in Portugal’s largest cement maker. Titan’s Roanoke plant has no effect on property values

In Spring 2009, Titan America commissioned a study of property values for homes within a five-mile radius of its Roanoke Cement plant. The analysis, conducted by Samuel Long of Miller Long & Associates, concluded that the plant’s presence in the community has had no negative effect on property values. Morocco to invest US$ 7.5bn in low cost housing

Morocco will invest 60 billion dirhams ($ 7.5 billion) in low cost housing in 2010-2020 as part of efforts aiming to reduce the deficit to 700,000 units by 2015, Housing minister Ahmed Taoufiq Hejira said. Siam Cement seeks to restart 5 Map Ta Phut projects

Siam Cement, Thailand’s biggest industrial conglomerate, said on Thursday it had sought approval from a Thai court to restart five projects at the Map Ta Phut industrial complex halted by court order. "We have submitted five projects to the court which have a combined value of over THB10bn (US$304m) out of a total 18 suspended projects," President Kan Trakulhoon told reporters.

India govt may look at using cement for building expressways

Transport Minister Kamal Nath today said the government may look at using cement for constructing over 18,000km of expressways in the country. Holcim has no plans to make a counterbid for Cimpor, Portugal’s largest cement producer, a senior official said on Thursday. India’s ACC Ltd plans to raise its cement manufacturing capacity to 30Mta by the end of 2010, the company’s managing director said Thursday.
