India prices set to rise in west, south regions

After increasing prices in November, Indian cement manufacturers seem set to effect another round of hike soon in western and southern regions due to shortage of wagons, analysts said. New plant for Novorossiysk region, Russia

Moscow developer Trustinvest-V intends to invest US$500m building a cement plant outside Novorossiysk, Krasnodar region, Kommersant reports. The plant construction site is reportedly located near Novorossiysk - Krymsk federal highway, between the villages of Gorny and Nizhnebakansky. The plant’s projected annual cement capacity is 3.5Mt. The plant is scheduled to be put into commission in 2014.

China’s ex-factory cement price rises

China saw the average ex-factory price of cement climb RMB 2 from the previous month to RMB 278/t in November, according to the statistics published on the website of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Friday. The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development has invested an additional EUR120m (US$172.7m) in the Russian unit of Lafarge. Vietnam Cement output to rise 10.5%

Vietnam is forecast to produce between 44Mt and 45.5Mt of cement this year, up 10.5% from a year earlier. Of the sum, Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) will make 17Mt in 2009, the Ministry of Construction was quoted by the An ninh Thu do newspaper as saying Monday. This is the first year Vietnam’s cement production has met the domestic demand, the ministry said. The MoC forecast the country’s cement output will increase on-year between five and 7Mt in 2010.

Cementos Lima launches operation hydropower plant

Peruvian cement maker Cementos Lima SA has launched the operation of its 220 MW El Platanal hydropower plant (HPP). The HPP uses water resources from the Canete River and is located in the district of Lima, Cementos Lima said. The energy will be supplied through the Chilca substation.
