Shiva Cement receives approval for expansion project

Orissa-based Shiva Cement on Monday said it has received sanction letter from the state government for an additional 25.69 acres of land for implementing its expansion project. The company has already received environment clearance, water permission, coal linkage and no objection certificate from Gram Sabha, Shiva Cement said in a notification to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Holcim to prepare plans for NZ plant in 2010

Holcim Ltd said it will consider plans next year for a new plant on New Zealand’s South Island to reduce reliance on imports from Asia. Indian cement prices are seen hardening in the Jan-March quarter as demand from state projects picks up and rural housing drives volume growth, industry officials said. Egypt’s Al-Nahda Co. for Industries raised a E£1.2bn ($219 million) syndicated loan to build a cement plant in southern Egypt, one of the loan’s arrangers said on Wednesday. The Industrial Development Authority said in November that Al-Nahda’s cement production licence, awarded in October 2007, was one of five under review because of start-up delays. Northern Cement Company reduces prices, Iraq

The State Company for Northern Cement has reduced the prices of its products to compete with similar imported products, the Iraqi Industry Ministry said on Wednesday. "The step improved the company’s sales of cement from 676,666t in 2008 to 796,202t in 2009," said a release issued by the Ministry on Monday and received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. It said that the figures show an increase in sales by 118 per cent.

Votorantim completes acquisitions, South America

Cementos Valderrivas has completed the sale to Votorantim Cimentos of its 50% stake in the Uruguayan company Cementos Artigas, in an operation tied to the divestiture of other 50% in Cementos Avellaneda and Minus, both based in Argentina. The deal is worth US$204,21m, slightly above the November announcement of US$201m. Cimentos Votorantim would be a partner in Uruguay and Argentina with the also Spaniard Molins.

Cemex sold US$1.77bn of bonds denominated in dollars and euros as it seeks to repay loans from a US$15bn debt restructuring, said a person familiar with the transaction.
